Sadak 2 (2020): Film Review

Sadak 2 (2020): Film Review

Sadak 2 is a sequel to sadak 1 which was a superhit movie of 1991. Since the theatres are closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, the film is released at “Disney+Hotstar, Multiplex”, which is OTT (Over The Top) video streaming platform, on August 28, 2020.

It’s a Bhatt family film, directed by Mahesh Bhatt, produced by Mukesh Bhatt starring Alia Bhatt as Aarya and Pooja Bhatt (who is not seen on screen, other than snippets from previous sadak 1991). Alia Bhatt is such a good actress otherwise, but fails to impress here. Pooja Bhatt’s photo used in movie is mesmerizing. The scenes from sadak 1991 are used to justify the sequel but sadak 1 has nothing to do with sadak 2.

The performance of another major actor Sanjay Dutt as Ravi Kishore Verma is praiseworthy. He shines in some moments. The other actors in list like Aditya Roy Kapur as Aarya’s boyfriend, Jisshu Sengupta as Aarya’s father, Priyanka Bose as Aarya’s step mother, Gulshan Grover as Dilip Hathkata etc are just okay.

The movie trailer of Sadak 2 stands at No.2 in the list of most disliked video on YouTube with more than 13 million dislikes (94%) after ” YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind” which still holds No1 position with 15 million dislikes. The reason lies in the controversy erupting after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, an Indian actor, on Nepotism in Bollywood.

The background score by Sandeep Chowta is just okay. The music is composed by Jeet Gannguli, who has earlier won best music director IIFA award for Ashiqui 2 in 2014 and best music composer Mirchi Music award for “City Lights” in 2015. “Suno na sangemarmar” from movie Youngistan was his best song in 2015. Another music director is Ankit Tiwari, who shared IIFA award for Ashiqui 2 with Jeet Gannguli earlier and was adjudged as best male playback singer for “Gallian” song in “Ek Villain” movie in 2015. Notwithstanding, their previous achievements,  there is no such magic in Sadak 2.

There was not much for Jay I. Patel who handled Cinematography for the movie. Editing by Sandeep Kurup is good and maintains the sequence. However, the scenes are seems to be stretched too much boring the audience. The later revelation of characters do not match with their earlier drama and is somewhat unjustified.

The movie has a few emotional moments which get overshadowed by other negative factors of the movie. The makers were trying to make a romantic, suspense, thriller, emotional drama kind of movie but nothing actually seems to be working. The movie can be watched for Sanjay Dutt only.
