Durgamati is more of a film with twists and turns than horror, in which it has been promoted. It’s a remake of Bhaagmathie which was released in Telugu in 2018. Both films are directed by Ashok but there seems to be a vast difference in the performance of the actors. While Anushka Shetty shines in Bhaagmathie, Bhumi Pednekar struggles to match her. Ashok started his career as a classical dancer followed by choreographer in Telugu movies. His first attempt as writer and Director in bollywood is Durgamati. His direction is praiseworthy.

So far it has been a good going for Bhumi Pednekar in 2020 as she has won best actress award for Saand ki aankh and best supporting actress award for Bala. But she hardly impresses in Durgamati as Chanchal Chauhan. Sometimes it looks like over acting and sometimes unimpressive. Her portrayal of an IAS officer doesn’t match with the on field reality. Only 2-3 of her shots are good and well managed. Jisshu Sengupta as ACP Abhay Singh and Arshad Warsi as politician Ishwar Prasad do justice to their roles. Rest other cast is hopeless.

 

The film is produced by many i.e. Bhushan Kumar & Krishan Kumar from T-Series, Akshay Kumar, the actor, Bhaumik Gondaliya and Vikram Malhotra. There is nothing to write about the music score, it’s flat. Cinematography by Kuldip Mamania is good. The best part is the Editing by Unnikrishnan. The only saving grace of the movie is it’s twists which keep surprising the viewers till the end (If you haven’t watched Bhaagmathie).

The film is released on OTT platform at Amazon Prime on 11 December 2020 due to pandemic COVID-19. It may be watched with family but has violence and unusual happenings ( can’t call it horror).

दुर्गामती (2020): फिल्म समीक्षा

दुर्गामाती एक ऐसी फिल्म है, जिसमें ट्विस्ट और टर्न हॉरर से ज्यादा है, जिसमें इसे प्रमोट किया गया है। यह भागमति की रीमेक है जो 2018 में तेलुगु में रिलीज़ हुई थी। दोनों फिल्में अशोक द्वारा निर्देशित हैं लेकिन अभिनेताओं के प्रदर्शन में बहुत अंतर है। अनुष्का शेट्टी जहां भागमती में चमकती हैं, वहीं भूमि पेडनेकर उनसे मैच करने के लिए संघर्ष करती हैं। अशोक ने अपने करियर की शुरुआत एक क्लासिकल डांसर के रूप में की थी, उसके बाद तेलुगु फिल्मों में कोरियोग्राफर थे। लेखक और निर्देशक के रूप में बॉलीवुड में उनका पहला प्रयास दुर्गामती है। उनका निर्देशन प्रशंसनीय है।

2020 का यह साल भूमि पेडनेकर के लिए अच्छा रहा है क्योंकि उन्होंने  सांड की आंख के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेत्री का पुरस्कार और बाला के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेत्री का पुरस्कार जीता है। लेकिन दुर्गामती में चंचल चौहान के रूप में वे शाय़द ही प्रभावित करती हैं। कभी-कभी यह ओवर एक्टिंग की तरह दिखता है और कभी-कभी बेकार। एक आईएएस अधिकारी का चित्रण क्षेत्र की वास्तविकता से मेल नहीं खाता है। उनके शॉट्स में से केवल 2-3 ही अच्छे हैं। ACP अभय सिंह के रूप में जीशु सेनगुप्ता और नेता ईश्वर प्रसाद के रूप में अरशद वारसी अपनी भूमिकाओं के साथ न्याय करते हैं। बाकी अन्य कलाकार आशाहीन हैं।

इस फिल्म का निर्माण कई लोगों द्वारा किया गया है, टी-सीरीज़ के भूषण कुमार व कृष्ण कुमार, अक्षय कुमार, अभिनेता, भौमिक गोंदालिया और विक्रम मल्होत्रा। संगीत स्कोर के बारे में लिखने के लिए कुछ भी नहीं है, यह सपाट है। कुलदीप ममानिया की सिनेमैटोग्राफी अच्छी है। सबसे अच्छा हिस्सा उन्नीकृष्णन द्वारा किया गया संपादन है। फिल्म को सिर्फ बार बार आने वाले ट्विस्ट हैं जो दर्शकों को अंत बांधे रखते हैं (यदि आपने भागमति नहीं देखी है तो)।

फिल्म 11 दिसंबर 2020 को अमेज़न प्राइम में OTT प्लेटफॉर्म पर महामारी COVID -19 के कारण रिलीज़ हुई है। इसे परिवार के साथ देखा जा सकता है लेकिन इसमें हिंसा और असामान्य घटनाएं होती हैं (इसे डरावनी नहीं कहा जा सकता)।
