Gulabo Sitabo (2020): Film Review
Another movie by Shoojit Sarkar after Vicky Donor in 2012 and Piku in 2015. Taking Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana from their cast, Shoojit Sarkar tries to make another comedy but fails to impress.
Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under production houses like Rising Sun Films and Kino Works, the film could not be released in theatres owing to COVID-19. The film had its premiere on 12 June 2020 at Amazon Prime. The music and the songs are unimpressive from all points of view. Cinematography by Avik Mukhopadhyay, three times national award winner is the saving grace for the movie technically. The old mansion has been covered beautifully by him. Otherwise, the pace of the movie is such that one feels sleepy as the story won’t move. Some scenes have been stretched unnecessarily, boring the audience. The title of the movie, Gulabo Sitabo, which is a local term, is very confusing for those who are not from Lucknow.
The acting by each and every actor is very impressive. Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana are excellent. But the topping on the cake is the performance of ‘Beghum’ played by Farrukh Jafar. The actors generate humour with their performance at few places. The actual locations used in the movie enhanced it’s connect with audience. It reminds the old era of art movies which will vie for success at box office even though the content is good.
The film has most of the characters as negative character resembling to people around us in real life, who are greedy and think only about themselves. The end is interesting and reassuring that positivity prevails over negativity. The credit for story goes to Juhi Chaturvedi, who successfully penned story for Vicky Donor and Piku earlier.

2012 में विक्की डोनर और 2015 में पिकू के बाद शूजीत सरकार की एक और फिल्म। अमिताभ बच्चन और आयुष्मान खुराना को अपनी पुरानी फिल्मों से लेते हुए, शूजीत सरकार एक और कॉमेडी बनाने की कोशिश करते हैं लेकिन प्रभावित करने में असफल रहते हैं।
राइजिंग सन फिल्म्स और कीनो वर्क्स जैसे प्रोडक्शन हाउस के तहत रोनी लाहिड़ी और शील कुमार द्वारा निर्मित यह फिल्म COVID-19 के कारण सिनेमाघरों में रिलीज नहीं हो सकी। फिल्म का प्रीमियर 12 जून 2020 को अमेजन प्राइम में किया गया। संगीत और गीत सभी दृष्टिकोणों से अप्रभावी हैं। अविक मुखोपाध्याय, जो तीन बार राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार विजेता हैं, की सिनेमैटोग्राफी तकनीकी रूप से फिल्म का बचाव करती है। पुरानी हवेली को उनके द्वारा खूबसूरती से कवर किया गया है। अन्यथा, फिल्म की गति ऐसी है कि नींद ही आ जाए क्योंकि कहानी आगे बढ़ती ही नहीं। कुछ दृश्यों को अनावश्यक रूप से बढ़ाया गया है जो दर्शकों को बोर करता है। फिल्म का शीर्षक, गुलाबो सीताबो, जो एक स्थानीय शब्द है, जो लखनऊ से नहीं हैं, उनके लिए बहुत भ्रामक है।
प्रत्येक अभिनेता का अभिनय बहुत प्रभावशाली है। अमिताभ बच्चन और आयुष्मान खुराना बेहतरीन हैं। लेकिन मनोरंजन की दृष्टि से फर्रुख जाफर का अभिनय बेहतरीन है जिन्होंने ‘बेगम’ का किरदार निभाया है। अभिनेता कुछ स्थानों पर अपने प्रदर्शन के साथ हास्य उत्पन्न करते हैं। फिल्म में प्रयुक्त वास्तविक स्थानों की वजह से यह फिल्म दर्शकों से जुड़ती है। यह कला फिल्मों के पुराने युग की याद दिलाता है जो बॉक्स ऑफिस पर सफलता के लिए संघर्ष करती रहीं, भले ही वह अच्छी हो।
फिल्म में ज्यादातर किरदार नकारात्मक चरित्र के हैं जो वास्तविक जीवन में हमारे आस-पास के लोगों के हैं, जो लालची हैं और केवल अपने बारे में सोचते हैं। अंत दिलचस्प है और आश्वस्त करता है कि सकारात्मकता नकारात्मकता पर हावी है। कहानी का श्रेय जूही चतुर्वेदी को जाता है, जिन्होंने पहले विक्की डोनर और पीकू के लिए सफलतापूर्वक कहानी लिखी थी।
