X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)

This is the seventh film in the X-Men series and a sequel to X-Men Apocalypse (2016). It is written & directed by Simon Kinberg and produced by Simon Kinberg with Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner and Todd Hallowell through 20th Century Fox, Marvel Entertainment, The Donners’ Company and TSG Entertainment.

The movie is as usual with gala special effects like previous movies in the series of X-Men. But it lacks in the storyline. It doesn’t seem to generate enough interest in the plot. The audience is not feeling connected. It seems that the story of the series has gone lost.

Sophie Turner as Jean Grey is in the protagonist in this movie. During her childhood, she gets fits of uncontrollable energy within her which cause car accident in which her mother dies. She is taken by professor Charles Xavier, played by James McAvoy, who puts barricades in her mind to control this energy. Later during an operation in space she accidentally absorbs cosmic energy which engulfed many planets before settling into Jean. This cosmic energy destroys the mental barricades put up by Xavier and Jean becomes too powerful for any mutant to control her. She accidentally kills Raven, played by Jennifer Lawrence. She seeks help of Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto), played by Michael Fassbender to control her powers but he couldn’t help. An alien Vuk, played by Jessica Chastain tries to transfer the powers of Jean into her to rule this world. The other mutants come to help Jean against Vuk and the fight goes on leading to……….. Watch to see what happens next and how!

All have done justice to their roles but somehow, the weak screenplay takes its toll. The film just managed to collect its budget amount nearing $200+ millions throughout the world. Its a must watch for die hard fans of X-Men series as the next movie may be extension of this storyline.
